Where It Began
I have spent fifteen years working in and around HR, for companies including McLaren Automotive, Rivian, Nuffield Health, Philips and Rolls-Royce.
I am really proud of that, and not because of the names (although they're super cool). It's because of what those places asked of me.
At one end, the questions a business asks when it is just getting going.
- How do we set up an HR function from nothing?
- How do we get compliant, and stay compliant?
- What systems do we actually need?
- What policies should already be in place?
At the other end, businesses that have required me to carry out company restructures, TUPE transfers, and complex employee relations cases. If you have been through one, you will know it is a difficult time. It needs careful handling and a steady hand, usually at the point where people are at their most worried.
I have experienced records scattered across four systems. A process nobody wrote down. Everyone involved wanting an answer today. That is the bit that makes good people feel like they are getting it wrong, and it has almost nothing to do with how much they care.
Which brings me to the part I care about. I have taken what I learned in those organisations and built it into software, for businesses that may not have a large HR function sitting behind them. Local businesses first, growing ones next, and larger organisations in time.
The same standard of work, and the same care, in a platform built for the people who most need it and can least afford to get it wrong. I still take on a small number of advisory clients, by referral.
